INTROIT

Ps 25:11-12
Redeem me, O Lord, and have pity on me; my foot stands on level ground; in the assemblies I will bless the Lord.
Ps 25:1
Do me justice, O Lord! for I have walked in integrity, and in the Lord I trust without wavering.
Glory Be to the Father…
Redeem me, O Lord, and have pity on me; my foot stands on level ground; in the assemblies I will bless the Lord.

COLLECT

Grant, we beseech You, almighty God, that Your servants who discipline the body by fasting from food, may strive after righteousness by abstaining from sin.
Through our Lord…

EPISTLE

Lesson from the Prophecy of Daniel
Dan 9:15-19
In those days, Daniel prayed to the Lord, saying, O Lord our God, Who brought forth Your people out of the land of Egypt with a strong hand, and made for Yourself a name as at this day: we have sinned, we have committed iniquity, O Lord, against all Your justice: let Your wrath and Your indignation be turned away, I beseech You, from Your city Jerusalem and from Your holy mountain. For by reason of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all who are round about us. Now therefore, O our God, hear the supplication of Your servant and his prayers: and show Your face upon Your sanctuary which is desolate, for Your own sake. Incline, O my God, Your ear and hear: open Your eyes and see our desolation, and the city upon which Your name is called: for it is not for our justifications that we present our prayers before Your face, but for the multitude of Your tender mercies. O Lord, hear: O Lord, be appeased: hearken and do: delay not for Your own sake, O my God: because Your name is invocated upon Your city and upon Your people, O Lord our God.

GRADUAL

Ps 69:6, 3
You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, hold not back!
℣. Let my enemies be put to shame and confounded, who seek my life.

Tract
Ps 102:10
O Lord, deal with us not according to our sins, nor requite us according to our crimes.
Ps 78:8-9
O Lord, remember not against us the iniquities of the past; may Your compassion quickly come to us, for we are brought very low. (kneel)
℣. Help us, O God, our Saviour, because of the glory of Your Name, O Lord; deliver us and pardon our sins for Your Name’s sake.

GOSPEL

Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John
John 8:21-29
At that time, Jesus said to the multitudes of the Jews: I go, and you will seek Me, and in your sin you will die. Where I go you cannot come. The Jews therefore kept saying, Will He kill Himself, since He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’? And He said to them, You are from below, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sin. They therefore said to Him, Who are You? Jesus said to them, Why do I speak to you at all? I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you; but He Who sent Me is true, and the things that I heard from Him, these I speak in the world. And they did not understand that He was speaking to them about the father. Jesus therefore said to them, When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that of Myself I do nothing; but that I preach only what the Father has taught Me. And He Who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, because I do always the things that are pleasing to Him.

OFFERTORY

Ps 15:7-8
I bless the Lord, Who counsels me; I set the Lord ever before me; with Him at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

SECRET

May this sacrificial gift offered in appeasement and praise, O Lord, make us worthy of Your protection.

PREFACE

Lent
It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who by this bodily fast, dost curb our vices, dost lift up our minds and bestow on us strength and rewards; through Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations worship it, the Powers stand in awe. The Heavens and the heavenly hosts together with the blessed Seraphim in triumphant chorus unite to celebrate it. Together with these we entreat Thee that Thou mayest bid our voices also to be admitted while we say with lowly praise:

COMMUNION

Ps 8:2
O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is Your Name over all the earth!

POSTCOMMUNION

May this Communion, O Lord, cleanse us of sin, and make us partakers of heavenly healing.
Through our Lord…

PRAYER OVER THE PEOPLE

Prayer over the people
Let us pray.
Bow your heads to God.
Give heed to our humble prayers, almighty God, and kindly grant Your oft-given mercy to those upon whom You bestow great hope in Your goodness.
Through our Lord…
